Locker - Rainbow Six Siege

About

The Locker was introduced to Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege in Year 9 Season 1 as a new way for players to explore their cosmetic collections.

Its main goal was to give both new and existing players a clear, comprehensive overview of everything they own. Players can browse individual item categories and sort their collection using different criteria.

We also added a “Latest” category, where players can quickly find their most recently acquired items, regardless of whether they came from the shop, Battle Packs, the Battle Pass, or another source.

My favorite addition is the favorites system. Players can mark any item with a small heart and find those favorites more easily throughout the game.

My Tasks

As one of two UX designers on the feature, I worked across the entire process: from early greyboxing and layout explorations to higher-fidelity mockups developed with UI Art for stakeholder reviews and documentation. I also supported implementation through to release.

I also built an extensive Figma prototype for an external user test conducted through Ubisoft’s user research lab.

Goals & Objectives

Overview

Many Siege players have accumulated large cosmetic collections without having one central place to view them. The Locker brings every owned item together and gives players practical tools to browse, sort, and understand their collection.

Manage

The Locker needed to be more than an overview. Sorting tools and a new favorites system let players organize their collection, mark the items they care about, and find those favorites more easily in other areas of the game.

Siege Identity

Although the Locker introduced new functionality, it still needed to feel unmistakably like Siege. We built on familiar components, extended them where necessary, and followed the game’s established design rules.

Feature Demo

I can only share the final in-game version of this feature.

In the video, I navigate the Locker in a live build of the game and show my personal in-game collection.

What the People think

“That’s so much better than searching through the ops! No, this is actually sick. This is a good change, I like this.”

Post-Launch Updates

After the initial launch of the Locker, we added additional quality-of-life features to it.

Mark all as seen

Players told us they wanted to clear the “New” indicator from recently acquired items all at once instead of hovering over every item individually. We added a shortcut that removes the tag from all items immediately.

Album Integration

Some newer interactions, such as adding items to or removing them from favorites, were initially only available in the Locker. We later brought the same functionality to the Album.
