iOS Custom Notifications Concept

I began this exploration after looking at my iPhone home screen and noticing that every app with something new communicated it through the same red dot and white number.

That convention works, but it hides the nature of the update. I imagined notification badges with distinct icons that communicate whether someone liked a post, an order is on its way, a payment arrived, or an email received a reply—before the app is even opened.
